About Lafayette, CA
Lafayette is a wealthy city, set in the majestic, rolling hills of Costra Conta County. Named after the great French military hero from the American revolutionary War, Marquis de Lafayette, the city has a strong historical and cultural background.
There are quite a few notable residents in Lafayette including musical recording artist Eddie Money, Will Forte from Saturday Night Live, San Francisco 49er Matthew Brown and Mark Yudof, president of the University of California.
One of the most notable landmarks in Lafayette is the Lafayette Hillside Memorial. This memorial is on a large hillside where residents began putting crosses in 2006 in memorial of the US soldiers who have been killed in the Iraq War. Other notable points of interest include the Town Hall Theater and Town Hall Kids.
A distinctive cultural area, Berkeley Hills, separates Lafayette from Berkeley and Oakland. Running beneath this area is the Caldecott Tunnel which connects several surrounding communities with Oakland.
Much of the geographical area is known for beautiful, grassy, rolling hills as well as woodland areas for nature lovers. Hikers can enjoy peaceful walks through the area’s hiking trails and the climate is enjoyable most of the year. Winters are generally mild with temperatures in the 40s and 50s and summers are anywhere from warm to hot, with temperatures averaging in the mid to high 80s.
