About Moraga, CA
Moraga is a beautiful valley in the midst of grassy, rolling hills. The town of approximately 16,000 residents has a strong cultural and historical background including the habitation of Bay Miwok Indian tribes.
The schools are rated among some of the best in the area and they are known for attracting students from surrounding towns. There are several schools, a mix of public and private, although there is only one public high school. There is also the Orion Academy, a private school which specializes in students with learning disorders. The only college, St. Mary’s College of California, is a highly ranked Catholic university located near downtown Moraga.
Some of the notable residents include several Olympic medalists (gold and silver) and MLB pitcher Aaron Poreda. The Moraga Historical Society is a notable association that gathers historical knowledge about the area and preserves it. Rancho Laguna Park is the perfect place for dog owners to bring their beloved pets to enjoy the outdoors and the company of other dogs.
Moraga was once known for its abundance of pear trees; however, construction has greatly reduced the population of these trees. The area is still full of natural beauty and there are miles of the Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail that pass through the area. Many residents in the area are outdoor enthusiasts and the area is perfect for such activities. The Mediterranean climate accommodates these activities for most of the year as well. Mild winters with temperatures averaging in the 50s give way to warm springs and hot summers with temperatures averaging in the 80s. This excellent climate produces a great cultivating atmosphere and an abundance of fruit trees, flowering plants and gardens can be found in the area.
