About Alamo, CA

Alamo can be found in the East Bay portion of the San Francisco Bay Area in Contra Costra County. Alamo means “poplar” in Spanish and the town received its name from the Spanish in 1850, referencing the many poplar trees along the San Ramon Creek. The town has approximately 15,000 residents and a few notable residents that live in Alamo are Kristi Yamaguchi, Tony La Russa and Jason Newsted.

The area has a natural charm as there are many parks and recreation areas including dog parks, hiking trails, picnic areas, sports facilities and children’s play areas. Hap Magee Ranch Park is one such park that includes several historic sites. It also features an extensive children’s playground including a water play area.

Las Trampas Regional Wilderness is a large park, boasting over 5300 acres of forest and woods. There are also hiking trails, some that lead to breathtaking waterfalls that are hidden in seclusion in this majestic, beautiful park.

There are only three schools in Alamo, but they are three highly rated among schools in the area: Rancho Romero Elementary School, Alamo School and Stone Valley Middle School.

The climate is mild in the winter and sunny summer days can range from warm to hot with low humidity. There are many food and flower gardens in the area and it is ripe for the cultivation of many trees, plants, fruits and vegetables. Conditions are generally favorable for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy outdoor activities year round in the mild, Mediterranean climate.
